A Study of Efficient Transmission Schemes for Multicasting and Fair Access Control in Broadband Multimedia Communications

چکیده
2003 i Preface In recent years, the Internet traffic has increased explosively, because multimedia traffic such as video streaming service and business data distribution becomes to be transported in the Internet. Some multimedia applications requires strict QoS or multicasting. A multicast ATM switch can be accepted as a solution to support multimedia traffic. ATM can provide strict QoS guarantee per flow of each media, and is applied to the current high-speed networking technologies. In multicast ATM switches, it is very important to reduce cell loss by buffer overflow and contention, and cell delay. On the other hand, the " cost " is the key factor for constructing LAN/MAN, and efficient media access control (MAC) protocols, which can increase the throughput, reduce the queueing delay, and keep fair access, are needed. In this paper, we propose efficient transmission schemes for multicasting and fair access control in broadband multimedia communications. We clarify the basic performance of the proposed schemes by both analytical and computer simulated approaches. In Chapter 1, the background of this paper is summarized. And the purpose of this paper is clarified. In Chapter 2, we first propose a crossbar ATM switch for multicast traffic. By adding minimal faculties to the conventional model, proposed model 1 can deal with multicast traffic without degrading the performance of the conventional model. ii However, due to treatment of multicast traffic in proposed model 1, output congestion is liable to occur. Second, we propose a crossbar ATM switch in which the concentrator is removed and all the output lines of the header translator are connected to a shared buffer, as the proposed model 2. We show that proposed model 2 can improve cell loss probability performance dramatically for low and medium loads. In Chapter 3, in order to improve the delay performance by a source conflict, we propose a new channel reservation protocol which can reduce message delay by using a counter for detection of a source conflict in a WDM single-hop network with non-equivalent propagation delay. We analyze the throughput performance by taking the effect of a source conflict into account, and show that the approximate analysis and the computer simulated results are close. Also, from computer simulated results, we show that our proposed protocol can reduce mean message delay dramatically without degrading throughput performance as the offered load becomes large. In Chapter 4, we present an analytical method for evaluating the delay-throughput …

Multimedia applications in broadband ISDN present various types and classes of traacs such as video teleconferencing, broadband telephony and large le transfers. Multicasting is important in multimedia applications. Since cell loss in a multicast packet will cause the retransmission of the entire packet causing excessive load in the network, the ATM switch should provide for the reduction of ce...

This paper presents an investigation on the performance of the Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) in the power domain scheme. A Power Allocation (PA) method is proposed from NOMA throughput expression analysis. This method aims to provide fair opportunities for users to improve their performance. Thus, NOMA users can achieve rates higher than, or equal to, the rates obtained with the convent...
